Teacher Reading to Kids

We are a community-based, Japanese, bilingual and multicultural childcare organization committed to providing quality and affordable childcare services. Incorporating Japanese language and curriculum, our programs foster children's self-esteem, cooperation and confidence.

We promote a partnership between teachers, children and their families to build a stimulating learning environment that allows children to develop to their full potential and become active members of the community.

Looking Forward: Our Five-Year Strategic Plan

Program Goals: Expand programs to provide a continuum of childcare services for pre-kindergarten to early teens.

  • Provide more after school enrichment programs
  • Explore the feasibility of expanding the preschool hours from 7:30am to 6:00pm
  • Explore the feasibility of developing an after school program for middle schoolers as a stand-alone program or in conjunction with other organizations
  • Explore expansion of slots for low-income children
  • Provide attractive benefits and retention program for staff

Community Image Goals: To be viewed as a model program and to further develop NLF's position with other community organizations.

  • To be viewed as a model for other programs and as an active collaborator and partner in San Francisco
  • To be responsive to the changing needs of our families and community

Fundraising Goals: Develop additional fundraising sources, and utilize existing parent and alumni resources more effectively.

  • Develop a balanced operating budget from fees
  • Develop more diversity in funding sources and increase funding from outside NLF family network
  • Develop a capital fund to ensure childcare services in Japantown

Facility Goals: Be a visible presence in Japantown, and provide well-maintained facilities for our children.

  • Develop long-term site stability through the purchase or long-term lease of a building
  • Determine the feasibility of acquiring a single site for all programs
